Editors, completions, and repo agents

AI coding assistants

Use this page when you are choosing help for writing or changing software. A good fit is the shape of the product: an editor, an add-on inside an editor you already have, a browser prototype, or a chat box.

Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Bolt, v0, and Replit are the coding listings. DeepSeek is the chat product on this list marked offered in mainland China. Microsoft Copilot is included so it is not confused with GitHub Copilot.

Mainland China access is not confirmed for the editors and browser tools here. The index does not turn that into a yes or a no.

How to choose

  • Pick an editor when the assistant should see the repository. Cursor and Windsurf are desktop editors. GitHub Copilot is the assistant that lives in editors and on GitHub.
  • Pick a browser builder when you are starting a prototype. Bolt and v0 generate an interface from a prompt. Replit also runs and hosts the project in the browser.
  • Pick a chat product when you want answers beside the code. DeepSeek’s listing is reasoning and coding help, and it is marked offered in mainland China.
  • Treat code you send to a hosted product as leaving your machine. This index does not record a retention policy, and it does not claim an offline mode for these listings.
  • Read the price shape on the card. These eight are freemium in the index. The meter for heavy agent use sits on the vendor’s plan.

Shortlist

Eight listings. Six are coding products. Two are chat products people mix up with them.

Questions

  • Should I start with an editor or a chat box?

Start with Cursor, Windsurf, or GitHub Copilot when the change belongs in a project. Start with Bolt, v0, or Replit when the project itself can begin in the browser. Start with DeepSeek when you want coding help in chat from a product marked offered in mainland China.

  • Does the index say these tools keep my code?

Retention is not a field in the index. Assume a prompt sent to a hosted assistant leaves your machine, then read the vendor’s current policy. Dify and n8n, on the automation page, are the listings that describe a self-hosted edition.

  • Which coding assistants work offline?

This index does not claim an offline mode for Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Bolt, v0, Replit, DeepSeek, or Microsoft Copilot. They are listed as hosted products with free and paid use.

  • Is Microsoft Copilot the same listing as GitHub Copilot?

They are two listings. GitHub Copilot is the coding assistant in editors and on GitHub. Microsoft Copilot is the chat assistant on the web, in Windows, and in Microsoft 365. The comparison page is Cursor against GitHub Copilot.

  • What is confirmed about mainland China?

DeepSeek is marked offered. Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Bolt, v0, Replit, and Microsoft Copilot are not confirmed. Unknown means the public offer was not clear on review, so the index leaves the mark open.

Limits

NavBoth is a directory of public products already in the index. These pages help you choose a listing. The product itself runs on the vendor’s site. Mainland China marks come from public offers reviewed with the seed; they are not a live connection test. No listing on these pages has a paid badge. Names belong to their owners.

Privacy policies, enterprise contracts, and model choices change on the vendor’s site. This page records product shape, price shape, and the China mark already in the index.
